Sunfloer Pour

This was done with the acrylic pouring technique and materials.  However, I tried to use the approach to make something real, and not so abstract.  I chose to use an offset sunflower as my target image.

So, it turned out looking like an abstracted sunflower, which is what I had in mind.  I like the combination of realism and abstracted-ness.  The colors jump out like all sunflower images.

Blue Pour

This may be one of my best "pours".  As you have seen previously, I have been experimenting with a technique called "acrylic pouring.  Using diluted acrylic paints and adding some silicone oil, you can get an image that feels "organic". I learned about it from YouTube.

This one uses a hair dryer to move the diluted paint on a wet acrylic base, called a pillow.  Then, the paint and the oil mix and create an image that changes as it develops. The oile creates some voids, which are called cells or latices.

The result of this is stunning to me.  It looks a bit like marine life, due to the blue background, I think.  Some see coral in it.  I just see a fun experiment!

Boat at Sundown

During the past year or so, I've been taken by images with boats and water.  You've seen a number of them in previous posts, like the Blue Boat.

This one is in a similar genre, but the strong sunset colors really makes it pop.  Then, with the boat and water in shade, the colors see to jump out.  That's what I saw when I first saw this image.

Another story, here? Who and why?

Umbrella in Rain

I loved this image when I saw it.  I really like paths as well as images that can have a story along with it.  A previous painting of a lady in winter has those elements.

The yellow umbrella is very striking.  But, the question is "who left it?" "And, why?" "What went on here and where does the path lead?"

Lots of questions but everyone has their own answers, don't they?

Painting all of those leaves took many hours.

Yellow Flowers

Playing golf one day, here in Florida, I saw these flowers in a tree on the course.  The color was brilliant!

So, I decide to make it a "door painting".  It's hanging now outside our door.

Rialto Bridge - Venice

A neighbor asked me to paint a picture to hang outside his  apartment door.  He wanted something related to water.  And, when we spoke, he told me of a trip that he and his late wife had taken to Venice.  He even had a photo of one of the bridges.

So, I decided to do my own version of the Rialto Bridge, one of the most famous bridges there.  This is only a 12 X 12" painting, but it contains a lot of detail.  Lots of small brushes used

I do like the way that it finished - and so did he!

Path In Fall

I got the idea for another "door painting" from seeing a photo like this online.  I thought that showing a path into the background would be welcoming as people visited their friend's apartment.

I showed this to a workout friend and she thought that it reminded her of the road to her brother's cabin in upper New York state.  So, it's going to be wrapped under the tree for him this Christmas.

Thanks, Swifty

Winter on the Farm

After  she wanted one of teh "Siena door paintings", a neighbor suggested that I try some other seasonal themes so that people might exchange their door painting during different seasons.  So, I tried a Winter scene, here.  It turned out well, I think.  The red barn looks pretty real.

Blue Boat

I was taken by this image, as it was similar in concept to the "Man at Work" piece that lots of people liked. It will be interesting to see whether this one gets a similar reaction.  I really like the reflection in this one, as well as the blue colors that set off the boat and fisherman "at work",

Man At Work

Some time ago, I saw this photographic mage of a man, probably in Asia, going or coming from work out in the water.  I saw it on the Internet and it really spoke to me and I decided to paint it.

It's interesting that this painting has gotten a large amount of interest from people who have seen it.  I showed it in several local amateur art shows at our country club as well as our residence facility.  So far, quite a number of people have asked about the original (which sold) or prints.

I think that it is interesting to people because it tells a story.  Who is he?  Where is he going?.  Is it day break or nightfall.  Lot's of ways to tell the story.

What is your story?

EVEN MORE "Door Paintings"

These two were fun as they were edible orchids which were on our plates at dinner one night.  The pink one really got my attention.  I decided that painting them would be something that people at Siena could relate to.

So, here they are!

More "Door Paintings"

Here ar three more of the Door Paintings.  At one time or another, I have rotated among all of these on our door.

#1 is a set of Poppies

#2 is a water lily flower from the Naples, FL Botanical Garden

#3 is a sun flower, which is now adorning a neighbor's door

This is a very fun project.  I like it.  People like it.

Siena Lakes "Door Paintings" 2024

These are three paintings that I named "Siena Door Paintings".  The idea is that people who live here at Siena Lakes like to personalize the space outside their apartment door and several have asked me to paint a piece of original art that they can use.  In the last post, I showed the first one, the Nantucket Basket.  Now, here here are three more:

#1 is red hydrangias in a basket

#2 is a hybiscus (from out on our golf course)

#3 is a set of cricuses that I really like

I love to see these as I travel around in Siena
