Nantucket Basket

Back to traditional Dayton work! A good friend, who is really into Nantucket Baskets, asked me to do a small piece to hang outside their door at the senior facility where we now live.  This is the result.  I looks handsome, even more outside their door.  I think that I'll do some more of this type.

Black Background Pour

In this one, I tried to blow out a piece, but this time on a black background.                                                    It came out very dramatic, I think.

Acrylic Pouring Flower #2

Another flower example.  I reeally like this one!

Acrylic Pouring Abstract Flower #1

Another example of pouring, but not so abstract.   was trying to make some flowers develop, using the hair dryer "blow out" technique.  I'm going to play some more with this technique.

Acrylic Pouring With Cells

These are two more examples of the "blow out acrylic pouring" that I have been experimenting with in the last few months.  In addition to the blow out, I have been playing with what they call a "cell activator".  This is a chemical - in this case a silicone oil" - which when added to the paint, creates spaces or "cells" in the finished piece.  It is so fun to see these cells form after you have done the piece.  It feels very organic.

Blue Blow Out Acrylic

This is a new "acrylic pouring" piece.  I've discovered a new way to do these pieces.  In the earlier pourings, I used a palette knife to make the image on a unpainted canvas surface.  In this one, I put a white paint surface down initially, then put lines of color, and then made the magic happen with a hairdryer.

I really like the result i this one and a lot of people seem to like it, too.  I'm keeping this one!
