Acrylic Pouring #1

This is something new for me. I have been following a new painting technique, called "acrylic pouring" online.  I have watched many YouTube videos about it and decided to give it a try,  This is way different from my normal detail style.  But, it really grabbed me.

This technique uses acrylic paint, an "extender" to dilute it, and then a silicone oil to create some of the detail.  The concept is that the oil doesn't readily mix with the acrylic (oil and water) and then creates the cells in the colors where the it is used.  It creates an amazing image.  The actual image is created with a palette knife over a white paint base.   Not bad for the first try!!!

     

 

 

This piece has a lot going on! And a lot of challenges to master.  First, the window and the tree in the background.  The tree has to be out of focus to show the third dimension.  Secondly, the glass vase and the flowers.  Painting glass is something that I find hard.  Lastly, and you may miss it, is the candle and the reflection in the window.  That may be my favorite part of this one.

 

The Door In Bricks

My painting buddies laugh at me when I paint something with bricks.  Because I have to make them realistic, including the grout in between the bricks.  The opportunity to do that made me love this image.  And, including the poppy flowers in the front added even more interest.

 

Aspen Grove In Fall

I love aspen trees and have painted quite a few of them over the years.  I loved this image of a watery aspen grove with the great fall colors of these beautiful trees.  Since I also love using light in my paintings, the reflections made me love it even more.

 

Dripping Roses

This is a large piece, 30" x 30".  I saw the image online, but wanted to try my hand again with droplets from a recent rain<  It turned out as I had hoped and it hangs above our bedroom now.

Orange Rose - Deconsructed

 

Another "deconstructed" flower.  Somehow, I keep going back to roses.  They just seem to have the most detail to render.  

Deconstructed Rose

This is the first of the "deconstructed" flowers from 2021.  It also may be the best, in my view.  Somehow, it just looks right!

As I have said before, using this technique allows me to use my penchant for realistic detail, but also add some expressionistic touches.

After finishing this one, I showed it in our community art show in Florida.  Before long a neighbor decided that she wanted it and purchased it right there.
